An ambitious project by a local partnership to transform the heart of Glebe Green estate in Winsford has now been fully completed and was officially opened on Wednesday 30th May 2007.

A previously empty and underused patch of land in the centre of the 300-home estate has been totally transformed into a new recreation facility, complete with multi-use ball games area and teen shelter.

The idea for the project was conceived by Glebe Green’s active residents group Harmony, and has been project managed by local Groundwork Cheshire, with hands on support from Muir Group Housing Association.

The £65,000 project has been funded by Muir Group (£23,000), Waste Recycling Environmental Limited, administered by WREN (£40,000), and Groundwork Cheshire (£2,000).

The facility was opened by the Mayor Doug Shingler, with 5-a-side football matches taking place between young residents of the estate, members of Y-Action youth group and Muir staff.

The multi-use games area is the first part of a two phase project to transform recreation provision on the estate.  The second phase that will hopefully commence later in the summer will be a children’s play area.
